Prior to our monthly meeting yesterday, the sons of our late comrade Charles Kennedy presented me a message from their dad. His son informed me that the message was written on the inside cover of a notebook that they recently uncovered. The title of the message is "We are the Forgotten," and want to share it with you now.
Twenty-four post members, thirteen auxiliary members and three children of family members staged donated supplies, then packed 1,000 support bags in support of Operation Gratitude, a nationwide organization dedicated to veteran and first responder support. The bags will be delivered to community veterans and first responders later this week as a thank-you for their service. Here are a few of the pictures. More pictures are available on our Facebook page.
District 5 meeting this Saturday, 10/31 in Columbus.
Our post will be volunteering this Saturday night at the CVC Steak Night. Volunteers should arrive at 1700 hours with the event beginning at 1800 hours. We have received the necessary items from the organizers of Operation Gratitude and will be scheduling a packing session soon. We have 1,000 bags to pack up by the end of next week and will deliver them to veterans in the community. More information to follow on an exact date. Volunteers obviously welcome. Thanks to John Skinner and John Lager for their assistance in off-loading the 1,800 plus pounds of items. We are honored to have Medal of Honor recipient, Major General James E. Livingston, USMC visiting our community on November 6th, 1000 - 1300 hours at the Newnan Walmart Health Clinic. Everyone is encouraged to visit if able. Here is a link to his bio. majgen_livingston_bio_with_pics_rev_7.21.20__1_.pdf Our post in action delivering 72 jars of peanut butter and 11 jars of jelly to our local Bridging the Gap organization. NATIONAL VFW DAY
VFW Post 2667 and its Auxiliary invite members, family, friends and the community out to the National VFW’s 121st birthday celebration on September 29, 2020 with a birthday cake and comradeship. This will be held at the Coweta Veterans Club beginning at 5:30 pm. The Veterans of Foreign Wars was established on September 29, 1899 by a group of veterans from the Spanish American War and the Philippine insurrection. It has since grown to be the nation’s largest group of combat veterans. They continue “to honor the dead by helping the living”. The VFW promotes patriotism, goodwill and youth scholarships. They also provide military assistance and community service program, promote youth activities and volunteer many hours in their local communities. National VFW Day is observed annually on September 29 honoring all men and women devoted to this valuable organization and those members who have served our nation. Members of the VFW today hold a long-standing history of volunteerism in their communities. Not only have they served their country, but they continue to serve their fellow veterans, families and communities by sponsoring scholarships, and many other excellent services. VFW membership since its inception has been instrumental in the establishment of the Veterans Administration, the creation of the national cemetery system and passage of the GI Bill. Through the VFW, veterans honor veterans and serve their communities. On September 29 National VFW Day please take a moment to recognize all the VFW does in your community. We appreciate all the sacrifices that the Veterans have made for us all. We are The Land of the Free because of the Brave. Please join us in the celebration at 5:30 pm. I do believe that it is also Taco Night so bring an appetite. The Coweta Veterans Club is located at 130 Veterans Club Road, Newnan, Georgia. Post 2667 has officially adopted our local National Guard Unit, Bravo Company, 1-121 Infantry. We look forward to continuing to serve the men and women of this organization.
Members of Post 2667 participated in two, Final Salute ceremonies for two local veterans. The events were sponsored by Homestead Hospice and involved prayer, recognition of service to country and the final salute to the veteran for a job well done. Pictures from the event were approved by Homestead Hospice for posting.
