Robert Watson Alexander Jr., age 88, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014, at Savannah Court Assisted Living in Newnan. He was born April 19, 1926, in Coweta County to the late Robert Watson Alexander Sr. and Elizabeth Morris Alexander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett Owens Alexander. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Alexander Morris and Mary Alexander Bowers. He was a graduate of Newnan High School in 1944 and joined the Navy right after graduation. He was veteran of World War II. After leaving the Navy he attended and graduated from the Barber College of Atlanta. Upon his return to Newnan he joined the family business, which was the barber shop his father purchased in 1919. He took over ownership in 1946 and after 69 years of the Alexander family owning and operating the barber the shop, it closed its doors in 1988. He loved working on the Court Square because he said he loved being in the middle of the action in the downtown area. He was a lifetime member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the American Legion for 65 years. He tremendously enjoyed woodworking. He had a grand shop behind his home where he constantly made useful kitchen and household items for friends and family. He crafted all of Harriet's frames and display racks for her paintings. He constructed outbuildings and the famous moonshine still at Powers Crossroads Festival. He ran and operated legal stills at the festival for eight years. It was a true passion of his. He was a devoted caregiver for his mother until she passed away at the age of 102. The graveside service was Wednesday, September 24 at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Dr. Joel Richardson officiating. Member
Mr. George Robert Henderson Sr., age 84, of Newnan, GA, passed away Jan. 11, 2014 at Spalding Regional Medical Center in Griffin, GA. He was born March 3, 1929, in Coweta County. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruth Lavonia Henderson. George is survived by his children, George Robert Henderson Jr. of Alpharetta, Debbie Barron of Warner Robbins and Cindy Henderson of Newnan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lori Harris, Morgan Balkcom, Matt Balkcom, Henderson Barron and Marissa Barron. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Zeke Scott, Grayson Harris, Aubrey Balkcom and Zoe Balkcom. Charter Member - US Navy
Lindsey Hand Barron, 83, of Newnan, died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. He was born December 16, 1923 in Greenville, S.C. to the late Mr. Zeddie Pleasant Barron & Mrs. Opal Hand Barron. In addition to his parents, his siblings, Zeddie P. Barron, Jr. and Catharine Barron Edwards, and his cousin, Harry Elvin Barron, preceded him in death. Mr. Barron attended schools in Newnan, GA then went on to graduate from Emory University with a BBA. He was also a graduate of Northwestern Midshipman School. He was the Executive Officer LST 587 in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a Deacon Emeritus of First Baptist Church of Newnan and twice Past Chairman of Deacons of First Baptist Church of Newman. He was Chairman of the Board, Lindsey's Realty, Inc. and Chairman, Coweta Developers, Inc. Community activities include Past President of Kiwanis Club of Newnan, Past Chairman of Newnan-Coweta Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, twice Past President of Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Newnan-Coweta Board of Realtors, Past Director of Georgia Association of Realtors, Past President of Retail Merchants of Newnan, Past President of Newnan-Coweta United Way, 1960 Man of the Year -Newnan-Coweta County, Past Director of First National Bank in Newnan, Past Director of Newnan Hospital, Past Director of Newnan Country Club, 1975 Kiwanis Man of the Half Century-Newnan, 1994 One of the Founders of Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City retirement community, Director of The Foundation of Wesley Woods, Inc., Citizen of the Year 1996 -Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Member Residential Care Facility for the Elderly Authority of Coweta County and 2001 Vice Chairman of Coweta County Water & Sewer Authority. The funeral is Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Newnan with Rev. Jimmy Patterson & Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
