Bronze Legacy Life Member - US Navy

Mr. Fred Morgan, age 87 of Newnan died at his residence on March 22, 2014. He was born in Haralson County on October 31, 1926 to the late Homer Spencer Morgan and Mattie Lizzie Ward Morgan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Mary, Hilda, Marjorie, Frances, Wilbur, Donald, and Winston.


Mr. Morgan served his country in the United States Navy then went to watchmaking school on the GI Bill. He became a certified horologist and opened Morgan Jewelers in downtown Newnan in 1962. This is the oldest continuous business on the square in Newnan.

Mr. Morgan was a member of Unity Baptist Church and attended the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the VFW, the American Legion, The Elks Club, and the Masonic Lodge. He was a booster in the community for everyone including Newnan High School and East Coweta High School.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine Morgan; children, Jim Morgan (Angie), Jeff Morgan (Camille), Greg Morgan (Leigh), and Debra Morgan Williams (Fred) all of Newnan; brother, Ferrell Morgan (Sue) of Toccoa; sister, Elizabeth Anderson of Kennesaw; grandchildren; Kelley Williams, Spence Morgan (Erika), Christin Bell (David), Blair Morgan, Ward Morgan, Ryan Morgan (Shelby), Jacob Morgan, Kendall Morgan; great grandchildren, Macy, Addycin, Ethan, Brycin.
